东京梦梁录中记载：开封各处都有酒肆，可见古代人下馆子十分喜欢喝酒，历史上也出现很多以酒会友的典故。

《清明上河图》可以看到汴梁城大馆子就有羊肉店，还有宋一个桌子顶天4人坐，要是高档点的地方就是一人一座一桌。常见的菜肴就是炒菜和汤羹，各种油炸食物和糕点。
