How Should Parents Help Children to Be Independent

Today's children with favorable and privileged conditions are considered unfit for the brutal world. Many psychologists thus recommend nurturing independence in children above all else.

Independence begins with parents' positive assessment of the child, sustaining personal characteristics like confidence, and competence. It is important for the parents to understand that safe and nurturing environments are important for children, and it needs effort to create and maintain such environments. And still, living in a society where the strongest rises to the surface, parents should care children in a way children are made to endure hardships, in order to get a glimpse of the complicated world.

In sum, independence is a most fundamental feature of personal accomplishment. For this reason, it is vital that parents nurture it in their children by giving positive assessment, commitment, and appropriate caring to children.
