了解评分标准无疑会有利于我们把握好作文的方向，也有利于我们掌握写作过程中要注意的事项。由于PETS3主要包括了两大类题材作文的写作，其评分标准也分为了针对于所有类型作文的总体性评分标准，也有根据每次具体作文要求而制定的具体评分细则。

（一）评分的侧重点

要想在写作这一项得到理想的分数，除了在平时加强语言基本功训练、提高写作技能外，了解评分的程序、“投其所好”也是一个考生要注意的重要因素。虽然A、B两节的考查要点有所不同，但对考生的写作的基本要求应该是相同的。所以总体性评分原则对两节都适用。但又根据每节的不同测试要点，评分时有不同的侧重点。

A节应用文的侧重点在于信息点的覆盖和内容的组织、语言的准确性、格式以及语域的恰当与否。对语法结构的合理性、语法的准确及词汇的使用的灵活多样性的要求则根据试题作调整。允许在作文中使用提示语中出现过的关键词，但如果使用提示语中出现的词组或句子就会被扣分。

B节作文一般是以议论文居多，有时也会有记叙文。这类作文更能考查考生语言知识水平上的谴词造句、逻辑推理水平上的旁征博引、篇章话语水平上的前后贯通、首尾相照等方面的能力。是对考生综合语言知识与语言运用能力的全面考查。所以，它也能给考生更广阔的发挥空间。相对而言，B节作文比A节对语言的准确性和结构词汇方面的表达就有更高的要求，对文章的内容及所能产生的读者效应有更大严格的标准，要求所言要“言而有物”；要求所论要“言之有理”；要求所叙要“梳而不漏”。只有满足了上述要求，就不难得高分。
