那时的西湖，虽然秀美，但还未经人工开发，山路曲折迂回，游览辛劳，她便请人制作了一辆小巧灵便的油壁香车。 坐着这车，可以去远处。

车子灵巧，人儿娇美，穿行于烟云之间，恍如神女下凡。沿路行人议论纷纷，啧啧称奇，猜不出她是何等人物。

一日，苏小小乘油壁车去游春，断桥弯角处迎面遇着一人骑马过来，那青骢马受惊，颠下一位少年郎君。 小小也吃了一惊，正待下车探视，那少年郎君已起身施礼。

小小过意不去，报以歉然一笑。 这郎君名叫阮郁，是当朝宰相阮道之子，奉命到浙东办事，顺路来游西湖。

他见小小端坐香车之中，宛如仙子，一时竟看呆了。直到小小驱车而去，阮郁才回过神来，赶紧向路人打听小小的来历住处。

当他得知小小出身于妓家时，不禁叹一声“可惜”。 阮郁回到住处，小小的身影总是浮现在眼前，茶食无味，辗转难眠。

他想，既是歌妓，与她相识一番，也是人生乐事！ 第二天一早，阮郁骑着青骢马，叫人挑着厚礼，径直来到西泠桥畔。 恰好贾姨妈出来，阮郁道：“晚辈昨日惊了小小姑娘，容我当面谢罪。”

贾姨妈见他不似一般王孙公子气盛无理，便进去通报。 小小因游湖劳累，今日一概谢客。

她倚在床边，不知怎的。总想起昨日遇见的那少年郎君。

忽听说此人到来，心中一喜，说：“请。 ” 阮郁斜穿竹径，曲绕松柳，转入堂内。

小小从绣帘中婷婷走出，四目相视，双方都暗含情意。阮郁英俊税洒，举止文雅，言谈中对西湖山水赞不绝口。
