在上海学习汉语的热多数都是已经参加工作的人，由于空闲时间比较少，他们每周大约只能上三个小时左右的课。而汉语被当成最难学的语言之一，三个小时对于多数学习者来说，是远远不够的。仅仅拿中国人学英语来说，虽然我们也花很多时间来学习，但英语成绩还是会不及格，更何况外国人学汉语只有很少的时间。所以，除了上课时间，外国学生也需要掌握学习方法，利用零碎的时间来学习汉语。

1. 利用上海地区良好的语言环境。沪语虽然难懂，但跟普通话的差别很大，即使是外国人，辨别这两种语言的差别也不是很困难。而且，不断涌进上海的打 工者，让普通话成为在上海使用度最高的语言。外国人在坐地铁、等公交的时候，都可以找到人来和自己练习一下对话。

2. 利用空闲时间来拓展词汇量。汉语的复杂，部分原因是汉语词库的繁冗。如果每周仅仅有三个小时的学习时间，那么词汇拓展的时间就太有限了。老外学中文要掌握学习方法的另一个重要原因，是学习周期的不确定性。

比如在早安汉语，有的老外在学习之初，根据老师安排的学习进度循序渐进地进步；但在学习周期未结束的时候，学生有可能因为工作变动的原因，需要离开中国一段时间——虽然余下的学习课程可以推迟，但如果学生离开的时间比较久，那当学生回来再学习的时候，之前的不少知识又要从头开始。
