    一.准备阶段 1. 学校 首先要明确的是美国有些学校对于PS只有一个总体的要求,而有些学校则对PS应该包含的内容划分很细致。

    写作时,如果学校对PS的内容有明确的要求一定要将要求的内容囊括。如此看来,在进行PS写作之前最初一定要弄清楚的就是学校要求学生有什么样的能力,所申请的专业有什么样的特色,所申请的专业对PS有什么样的要求。

    2. 回忆个人经历 PS反映的是申请者独特的经历与个性,因此在动笔之前,还有一件必须做的事情就是回忆个人经历,我们称之为mind mapping 或者是brainstorming。具体来说就是把你能够想到的个人经历,特色,理念,动机等因素从想法转变成文字。

    把你最先想到的一点写到纸上,然后成辐射状把和这一点相关的用线连起来,看起来就像一个map。所有的想法都落实到纸上之后申请者就要总结这些个人经历。

    也就是归类,把反映统一主题、思想、观点、能力的进行分类。 3. 确定主题 一个PS不是个人经历散乱的罗列,吸引人的PS需要有一个连贯的主题。

    a. 开篇 好的开篇可以抓住读者的眼球,引发读者的阅读兴趣,更是陈述整篇文章主题的关键部分。申请者的开篇方式多钟多样,有些申请者喜欢用谚语,名人名言,对专业的理解,个人经历,个人背景介绍,留学动机等。

    这里没有固定的写作模式,笔者认为以个人的亲身经历开始最有吸引力。喜欢用名人名言,诗句以及谚语的申请者一定要注意,所引用的内容一定要能够与文章的主题契合,并且确保对其理解是正确的。

    如果不能达到这样的要求,笔者建议少用。 b. 主体 主体部分是对文章主题的支撑、延展和加深,一般可分成2-4个段落。

    每段要有一个topic sentence也就是中心句,一般为段落的第一句。中间部分起到对中心句的支撑和加深的作用。

    每段的结束句起到加深中心句并且作为过渡到下一段做出连贯的衔接。主体段落中的个人经历可以按时间顺序写也可以按从次要到主要的方式写。

    笔者建议以层层递进的方式写来不断吸引录取官的阅读兴趣。但申请者需要时刻提醒自己的是所写的内容是否与紧扣文章主体,是否能够体现个人的能力,用什么样的方式体现最好。

    c. 结尾 结尾不是简单的总结之前已经写过的内容,而且应该避免重复前文的内容。它是对文章主题的升华。

    如果说主体部分是对主题的细化----向下的发展,那么结尾部分就应提高到一个更高的层面——向上的发展。 三.检查、寻求帮助和反馈 PS写完了就万事大吉了吗,No! No! No! 1. 检查 自己检查是第一步。

    从拼写、语法、句法以及文章的连贯性等几个方面出发,检视自己的文章是否完美。在申请文章中出现拼写等的初级错误往往会给录取官留下粗心和不尊重的印象,想要被录取当然难上加难了。

    写完PS后给自己留出几天的时间,然后重新阅读。这是你会发现你之前的想法和事例可能还有欠缺,还有可提升的部分。

    2. 寻求帮助和反馈 自我检查完成后申请者可以向老师或者有过申请经验的同学、朋友阅读自己的PS并且寻求反馈。从第三方提供的反馈中检视文章的可改进之处。

    千万不要写完就万事大吉! 四.PS中的一些细节问题 笔者主要想提醒大家在PS写作中应该注意的一些细节: a. 注意选词 一些申请者认为好的申请文章一定是用难词、生僻词。认为常见词不能显示出自己的英文水平与思想深度。

    事实并非如此。难词和生僻词会带来不必要的问题。

    申请者在字典上查到的所谓的有深度的词,往往是他不知道正确用法的词。还有一些词,查字典是显示的意思是申请者认为自己想要表达的意思,其实不然。

    一些词的内涵可能是相似的,但是外延却大不相同。没有准确的理解,往往会闹出笑话。

    另外,在文章中应尽量避免多次用同样的词语。也就是说,同样的想法可以用不同的表达方式或者词语来展现给读者。

    避免空词,这就涉及到冗余和简洁的问题。好的PS应该表达清晰,简明扼要。

    能用一个词表达的意思就要避免用从句或者短语。最后,能用主动语态就不要用被动语态。

    b. 俚语和口语 PS是一种正式的文体,写作时应使用书面语。避免俚语、口语等非正式语体。
