在这里，本源性的“说”就是人的本质活动。海德格尔指出，在希腊的深层传统中，说出一个事物（即使其本质展现）与把它带入到时间中（即行为的展开）二者是“纠结”在一起的。

“说”不仅是说出一个词，而是使词的本质展现在历史中。[4]大学之为大学，不仅是物质形态的，更为本源地，大学是言语性的，真正的大学开启在言语之中。

正是言说给物的形态的大学赋予形式，让大学之人明辨大学之理，由此而结成学人共同体。对于青年学生而言，大学绝非手边之物，并不是进入实体形态的大学就等同于进入了真正的大学之中。

常言“读大学”，大学乃是“读”出来的，在言辞中识读大学乃是大学教育的真义。言说使大学之理显现，或者说言说乃是大学显现自身的基本方式。

言说作为大学存在的基本样式，确切地说是大学精神存在的方式，意味着作为理念形态的大学是活动的、敞开的，而不是静止的、封闭的。大学之理念显现在大学讲演之中，校长的讲演无疑是集中体现。

讲演作为一个大学实践的场域，意味着聚集、召唤，引出大学之理，也就是让大学之理在讲演所开启的公共场域中现身和在场。校长讲演，不仅仅是“说”，而是将大学本质带入当下。

如果说理想的大学是以理念的形式存在，是言语性的，那么校长的讲演就是大学理念赋形的现实行动，就是大学之道在当下大学空间的现身。正因为大学之理在校长富于理性的讲演中的生成、聚集，校长就在言辞中开启大学空间，让作为听者的青年学生从个人的性情欲望之中跃迁到校长言辞所开启的大学理性空间之中生存。

大学校长的讲演，乃是对日常形态大学之上更高事物的召唤，对大学正义的召唤，唤起青年学生对更高事物的仰望与追求。“祭如在，祭神如神在。”

讲演作为一种大学的仪式化的场域，正在于某种神圣事物的在场化。没有更高事物的在场，此种场域就是平面化的，不足以激活青年学生灵魂的上升，引领他们向更高目标的追求。

这意味着校长作为讲演者对大学事理的先行进入，校长自身浸润在大学事理的诉求之中，校长成为大学之道的肉身所系，换言之，校长站在青年学生面前讲演之时，他就是大学。校长的讲演乃是一个承上启下的过程，讲演者在“承”在“上”的更高事物和“启”在“下”的学生的灵魂的过程中，起着关键性的引导与唤起作用。

海德格尔有言，语言乃是存在的家。大学校长的开学讲演其实就是在给大学生安置精神之家，也是在给整个大学编织一个大学梦想的家。

如果大学校长的讲演，充斥其中的都是官话、套话，这实际上一开始就弱化了青年学子对大学的想象。校长作为大学管理者，其基本职责当然是管理大学。

管理，意味着既“管”又“理”，管是管住，控制；理是理顺，疏导。如果说管体现的是可见事物的管住、管控，那么理则是不可见事物的疏导、梳理。

换言之，管理意味着外在秩序与内在秩序的合一。但在实践上，“管”往往优先于“理”，当“管”和“理”冲突时，往往就是“管”压倒“理”，也就是管理者掌控可见大学事物的主体意志压倒了不可见的大学事理。

大学治理理念的提出，其基本意味乃在于凸显“理”的优先性，大学管理者的重心恰恰不是作为管理者的主体意志的呈现，而是如何弱化管理者个人的主体意志，尽可能多地认同于当下大学可见事物背后的事理，让大学之理在大学诸种可见事物中显现出来。正是在这个意义上，大学管理乃是一种治理，治的是大学之“理”。

管理者的要义在于疏导、理顺、引导大学之理的显现。大学之理并不是校长给出的，赋予的，恰恰校长之为校长乃是大学之理赋予的，大学之理引导着大学校长之为校长，校长的存在让大学之理现实化，换言之，校长正是大学之“道”与“理”的肉身化。

强调大学治理意味着大学管理者应成为大学之理的承载者和显现者，而不是凌驾、游离于大学事理之上。大学治理乃是一种技艺，一种让大学事理显现出来的技艺，让大学显现其所是。

校长的讲演作为大学的实践无疑是见证校长作为管理者还是治理者的重要场域。一旦校长的言辞乃是体制化制作出来的官话、套话，这意味着校长自身并没有先行进入大学之道（理）的场域，校长的讲演只是传递、显明自己的校长身份，标榜的是校长的权力、权威，校长的讲演只是大学管理———而非治理的一个环节。

同样，以情感化的渲染为中心的校长讲演试图以人情平衡权力、权威，但由于大学理性匮乏，故不足以充分开启大学空间，这种讲演更多地增进的乃是讲演者本人与青年学生的联系，而不是大学之道（理、本质）与大学之。
