Why does Feminism still Prevail in China ? Contrasting to the fedual society, nowadays, Chinese women's social and family status have been improved greatly. Looking at the past, most of women had to stay at home all the time and seldom went out of the house, let alone taking part in social activities and receiving education . All they could do were to make embroidery, do housework and look after their families. But now, women can take all kinds of activities that men take, receive equal education and get equal pay. However, there are still lots of feminists. Why does feminism still exist? On the basis of the survey, there are mainly two reasons why feminism still prevails in China. Firstly, discrimination against women in employment is a serious problem that does not be taken seriously, which can be revealed through two aspects. One is that many employers list women's appearance and height in the conditions of the employees, while the requirement of men's is much lower compared to women for they think men's ability and value have less to do with their appearance and height than women. The other is the limitation of marriage and pregnancy in employment. When some companies employ, they always ask women whether they get married or not and if they are ready to have babies or already have. They have to sign some contracts about limiting pregnancy. During the period of working, once women are found pregnant, they are forced to leave their jobs by the means of threatening and cutting the pay. According to the statistics, every year about 44.07% of women of will confront with the limitation of marriage and pregnancy in employment. Secondly, problems of family voilence haven't been solved well though Marriage Law provides some rules for women to seek legal protection. With the deep influence of traditional ideology, men still regard women as their subordination and a tool of giving birth to babies. So they often maltreat women through ways of threatening with speech, sexual abuse and hitting them, which will hurt women both physically and mentally. One typical figure of family violence is the famous founder of the Crazy English, Li Yang. His American wife, KIM, discloses that her husband often hits her in their life. She even put some pictures on the Internet to prove her injury. Women are the indispensable part in the process of prolonging the human history, women are the main force of creating culture; women are the valuable treasures of human. Therefore, women should enjoy the equal rights with men. The appearance and hight indeed have nothing to do with their ability and creativity. Women make equal and even more efforts in founding a happy family than men. They deserve people's respect. If not, feminism will last a longer time.。

Feminism is a discourse that involves various movements, theories, and philosophies which are concerned with the issue of gender difference, advocate equality for women, and campaign for women's rights and interests. According to some, the history of feminism can be divided into three waves. The first wave was in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the second was in the 1960s and 1970s and the third extends from the 1990s to the present. Feminist theory emerged from these feminist movements. It is manifest in a variety of disciplines such as feminist geography, feminist history and feminist literary criticism. Feminism has altered predominant perspectives in a wide range of areas within Western society, ranging from culture to law. Feminist activists have campaigned for women's legal rights (rights of contract, property rights, voting rights); for women's right to bodily integrity and autonomy, for abortion rights, and for reproductive rights (including access to contraception and quality prenatal care); for protection from domestic violence, sexual harassment and rape;for workplace rights, including maternity leave and equal pay; and against other forms of discrimination. During much of its history, most feminist movements and theories had leaders who were predominantly middle-class white women from Western Europe and North America. However, at least since Sojourner Truth's 1851 speech to American feminists, women of other races have proposed alternative feminisms. This trend accelerated in the 1960s with the Civil Rights movement in the United States and the collapse of European colonialism in Africa, the Caribbean, parts of Latin America and Southeast Asia. Since that time, women in former European colonies and the Third World have proposed "Post-colonial" and "Third World" feminisms. Some Postcolonial feminists, such as Chandra Talpade Mohanty, are critical of Western feminism for being ethnocentric. Black feminists, such as Angela Davis and Alice Walker, share this view. Since the 1980s Standpoint feminists argued that feminism should examine how women's experience of inequality relates to that of racism, homophobia, classism and colonization. In the late 1980s and 1990s postmodern feminists argued that gender roles are socially constructed, and that it is impossible to generalize women's experiences across cultures and histories.。

    4.艾玛沃特森女权演讲英文原稿

    1. Today we are launching acampaign called “HeForShe.”I am reaching out to you because I need your help.We want to end gender inequality—and to do this we need everyone involved. Thisis the first campaign of its kind at the UN: we want to try and galvanize asmany men and boys as possible to be advocates for gender equality. And we don'tjust want to talk about it, but make sure it is tangible.2. I was appointed as GoodwillAmbassador for UN Women 6 months ago. The more I spoke about feminism, the moreI realized that fighting for women's rights has too often become synonymouswith man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain it is that this hasto stop. For the record, feminism by definition is the belief that men andwomen should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of thepolitical, economic and social equality of the sexes.3. I started questioninggender-based assumptions a long time ago. When I was at eight I was confused atbeing called “bossy,” because I wanted to direct the plays we would put on forour parents—but the boys were not. When at 14, I started being sexualized bycertain elements of the media. When at 15, my girlfriends started dropping outof their beloved sports teams because they didn't want to appear “muscly.” Whenat 18, my male friends were unable to express their feelings. 1. I decided I was a feminist andthis seemed uncomplicated to me. But my recent research has shown me thatfeminism has become an unpopular word. Women are choosing not to identify asfeminists. Apparently I am among the ranks of women whose expressions are seenas too strong, too aggressive, isolating, anti-men, unattractive even.2. Why has the word become such anuncomfortable one? I am from Britainand I think it is right I am paid the same as my male counterparts. I think itis right that I should be able to make decisions about my own body. I think itis right that women be involved on my behalf in the policies and decisions thatwill affect my life. I think it is right that socially, I am afforded the samerespect as men.3. But sadly, I can say that thereis no one country in the world where all women can expect to see these rights. No country in the world can yet say that they have achieved gender equality. These rights I considered to be human rights. 4. But I am one of the lucky ones.My life is a sheer privilege because my parents didn't love me less because Iwas born a daughter. My school did not limit me because I was a girl. Mymentors didn't assume that I would go less far because I might give birth to achild one day. These influences, with the gender equality ambassadors, made mewho I am today. They may not know it but they are the inadvertent feminists whoare changing the world today. We need more of those. 1. And if you still hate theword—it's not the word that is important. It's the idea and the ambition behindbecause not all women have been afforded the same rights that I have. In fact, statistically, very few have been.2. In 1997, Hillary Clinton made afamous speech inBeijingabout women's rights. Sadly, many of the things that she wanted to change arestill true today. What struck me the most was that less than 30% of theaudience was male. How can we effect change in the world when only half of itis invited or felt welcomed to participate in the conversation?3. Men, I would like to take thisopportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue, too. Because to date, I've seen my father's role as a parent being valued lessby society despite my needing his presence as a child as much as my mother's.I've seen young men suffering from mental illness, unable to ask for help forfear it would make them less of a man. In fact, in theUK, suicide isthe biggest killer of men between 20 to 49, eclipsing road accidents, cancerand coronary heart disease. I've seen men made fragile and insecure by adistorted sense of what constitutes male success. Men don't have the benefitsof equality, either.4. We don't often talk about menbeing imprisoned by gender stereotypes but I can see that they are. And whenthey are free, things will change for women as a natural consequence. If mendon't have to be aggressive in order to be accepted, women won't feel compelledto be submissive. If men don't have to control, women won't have to becontrolled5. Both men and women should feelfree to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. It istime that we all perceive gender as a spectrum instead of two sets of opposingideals. If we stop defining each other by what we are not and start definingour。

Feminism is a collection of movements aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights and equal opportunities for women. Its concepts overlap with those of women's rights. Feminism is mainly focused on women's issues, but because feminism seeks gender equality, some feminists argue that men's liberation is therefore a necessary part of feminism, and that men are also harmed by sexism and gender roles. Feminists are "person[s] whose beliefs and behavior[s] are based on feminism."

Feminist theory exists in a variety of disciplines, emerging from these feminist movements and including general theories[specify] and theories about the origins of inequality, and, in some cases, about the social construction of sex and gender. Feminist activists have campaigned for women's rights—such as in contract, property, and voting — while also promoting women's rights to bodily integrity and autonomy and reproductive rights. They have opposed domestic violence, sexual harassment, and sexual assault. In economics, they have advocated for workplace rights, including equal pay and opportunities for careers and to start businesses.

    希拉里1995年在联合国第四届妇女大会上的演讲:妇女的权利也是人权。

该演讲至今仍是世界妇女人权的重要篇章。 Mrs. Mongella, Under Secretary Kittani, distinguished delegates and guests: I would like to thank the Secretary General of the United Nations for inviting me to be a part of the United Nations Fourth World Conference of Women. This is truly a celebration -- a celebration of the contributions women make in every aspect of life: in the home, on the job, in their communities, as mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, learners, workers, citizens and leaders. It is also a coming together, much of the way women come together ever day in every country. We come together in fields and in factories. We come together in village markets and supermarkets. We come together in living rooms and board rooms.Whether it is while playing with our children in the park, or washing clothes in a river, or taking a break at the office water cooler, we come together and talk about our aspirations and concern. And time and again, our talk turns to our children and our families. However different we may be, there is far more that unites us than divides us. We share a common future, and are here to find common ground so that we may help bring new dignity and respect to women and girls all over the world. By doing this, we bring new strength and stability to families as well.By gathering in Beijing, we are focusing world attention on issues that matter most in the lives of women and their families: access to education, health care, jobs and credit, the chance to enjoy basic legal and human rights and participate fully in the political life of their countries. There are some who question the reason for this conference.Let them listen to the voices of women in their homes, neighborhoods, and workplaces. There are some who wonder whether the lives of women and girls matter to economic and political progress around the globe.Let them look at the women gathered here and at Huairou -- the homemakers, nurses, teachers, lawyers, policymakers, and women who run their own businesses. It is conferences like this that compel governments and people everywhere to listen, look and face the world's most pressing problems.Wasn't it after the women's conference in Nairobi ten years ago that the world focused for the first time on the crisis of domestic violence?Earlier today, I participated in a World Health Organization forum, where government officials, NGOs, and individual citizens are working on ways to address the health problems of women and girls.Tomorrow, I will attend a gathering of the United Nations Development Fund for Women. There, the discussion will focus on local -- and highly successful -- programs that give hard-working women access to credit so they can improve their own lives and the lives of their families. What we are learning around the world is that if women are healthy and educated, their families will flourish. If women are free from violence, their families will flourish. If women have a chance to work and earn as full and equal partners in society, their families will flourish.。
