Too Easy to Rebel In my mothers more angry and disillusioned moods, she often declares that my sisters and I are “smarter than is good” for us, by which she means we are too ambitious, too independent-minded, and somehow, subtly un-Chinese. At such times, I do not argue, for I realize how difficult it must be for her and my father—having to deal with children who reject their simple idea of life and threaten to drag them into a future they do not understand. For my parents, plans for our futures were very simple. We were to get good grades, go to good colleges, and become good scientists, mathematicians, or engineers. It had to do with being Chinese. But my sisters and I rejected that future, and the year I came home with Honors in English, History and Debate was a year of disillusion for my parents. It was not that they werent proud of my accomplishments, but merely that they had certain ideas of what was safe and solid, what we did in life. Physics, math, turning in homework, and crossing the street when Hare Krishnas were on our side—those things were safe. But the Humanities we left for Pure Americans. Unfortunately for my parents, however, the security of that world is simply not enough for me, and I have scared them more than once with what they call my “wild” treks into unfamiliar areas. I spent one afternoon interviewing the Hare Krishnas for our school newspaper—and they nearly called the police. Then, to make things worse, I decided to enter the Crystal Springs Drama contest. For my parents, acting was something Chinese girls did not do. It smacked of the bohemian, and was but a short step to drugs, debauchery, and all the dark, illicit facets of life. They never did approve of the experience—even despite my second place at Crystal Springs and my assurances that acting was, after all, no more than a whim. What I was doing when was moving away from the security my parents prescribed. I was motivated by。

My First Flight by Robin Bates - December 12, 2006 Describe an important experience in your life。 "Northwest, this is La Crosse Tower。
Hold-short runway three-one for Cessna on final。" Knowing that I had personally delayed a plane full of commercial passengers on my sixteenth birthday was not what I had in mind for my first solo flight。
Regardless, the hold-short command, a matter of little importance to the Northwest pilot and tower operator, made it impossible to ignore the reality of my success。 Unlike the fortuitous Peter Pan, who needs only to "think of a wonderful thought," it did not take me long to reach the conclusion that more than a bit of pixie dust would be required to make my young aviation dreams come true。
My quest soon brought me to Civil Air Patrol (CAP), the official volunteer auxiliary of the United States Air Force, which flies more search and rescue missions than any other organization。 I joined CAP as a cadet almost four years ago, attained the Cadet Officer rank of Captain (the Amelia Earhart Award), participated in numerous national Cadet activities, and served in state and national Cadet leadership positions。
Never did I abandon my dream of flying, however, and it was through CAP flight training that I found the key to my box of pixie dust。 Before I was allowed anywhere near a magical flying device, however, I attended hour upon hour (upon hour) of ground school sessions, learning the mechanics, instrumentation, physics, operation, and navigation necessary to be a safe pilot。
Of course, I could never forget the joys of FAA regulations that make tax law seem like a thrilling novel。 Then again, the woes of these early days were forgotten the moment I first stepped (or, rather, jumped) into the pilot seat of a Cessna 172。
It would be disingenuous to claim that my first experiences were anything but stressful and terrifying。 Suddenly I was in charge of an airplane, my own life, and even the life of my instructor。
Although I knew on some level that my Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) would not allow me to come to any real harm, my new responsibilities were daunting nonetheless。 After months of practice, countless landings, and more than one rough day, I was prepared (at least theoretically) to take to the sky。
Alone。 The weatherman was right; it was a perfect day。
The sky was magnificently clear。 The slight wind was perfectly aligned with the runway。
The late spring afternoon merrily unfolded with dazzling brilliance。 For the first time, I started the engine。
alone。 I taxied down the runway。
。
alone。 And then, I was flying。
alone! The exhilaration immediately hit me with unimaginable force。 Thousands of feet in the air, looking down on the Mississippi River and the abundant signs of spring, I realized there was no place I would rather be。
The pixie dust worked。 My wonderful thought transformed into a marvelous reality。
While I may have momentarily inconvenienced the passengers of that afternoon Northwest flight, I could not have had it any other way。 。

Even schoolwork determines whatdailyactivities one chooses to do. Workis the essential base of apersons livelihood and sets the daily schedule of aperson anddetermines what people that person interacts with. oneexampleis my schoolwork. I value my educationand prioritizeit, making sure that I complete my homework before I begintorelax. When I go home, I make itmandatory that my homeworkis done before I begin to do things required for myextracurricularactivities or play. Vacations and doctor appointments are scheduledaround my school yearand school day respectively. Thegroupof friends I decide to associate with is also determined by myacademics. All of my friends also place theireducationfirst, giving all of us no temptations or pressure to go anddo a fun activitybefore the work is done. This results inanenvironment that is based upon my schoolwork and facilitatesmylearning. Anotherexamplewould be my fathers job as an airline pilot. Although avery good job, it requires him towork an extremely oddschedule. Forexample, he sometimes may not even be at homefor an entire week and then mayspend the next week not even working. However he and my family have learned how to deal withthis. He gives us his monthly schedule of flightsand we allschedule in time to spend with him. His days can range from coming tomy soccer games, to going to one of mysisters ballet recitals, tochaperoning a field trip to Sea World. His friends are also, for the majority, fromhis work. Whenever he can, heschedulespoker games with his copilots and also takes us to companyparties. His best friend now is his main copilot and Icansee that they have formed a bond of camaraderie. Asone cansee, the type of work determines not only ones daily scheduleand life, butalso the friends that one associates with. For me and myfather, my schoolwork and his piloting determine when weplay work, andspend family time together as well as the people we spend themost timewith. Work tells us what to doeveryday and without it, wewould all be lost.。

A Brief Analysis of english teaching in senior high school Abstract: Classroom teaching is the main way for students to learn English. But in senior high school, a lots of probelms still exsit in the English teaching especially in the teaching of reading and writing. In this paper, the importance and methods of reading and writing will be further discussed. Key words: reading writing techniques Introduction: Classes should be learner-centered, with meaningful, functional activities, often, classes begin by finding out what the students dont know. These classes operate on the assumption that there is a great deal of information that students lack and that the teacher and textbooks will impact that information to the students. Teachers who hold this assumption view students as plants waiting passively to be fed and watered. But I think the students should be regarded as explorers, active learners who bring a great deal to the learning process and at the same time, draw from their environment as they develop new understandings. The basic principle will be used in the teaching of reading and writing. Section One------ How to teach reading I. Why teach reading There are many reasons why getting students to read English texts is an important part of the teachers job. In the first place, many of them want to be able to read texts in English either for their careers, for study purposes or simply for pleasure. Anything we can do to make reading easier for them must be a good idea. Reading texts provide good models for English writing, provide opportunities to study language vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and the way to construct sentences, paragraphs and texts. Lastly, good reading texts can introduce interesting topics, stimulate discussion, excite imaginative responses and be the springboard for well-rounded, fascinating lessons. The last but not the least, students must read widely because only a fraction of knowledge about the world can come from other experiences in their short lives.II. What kind of reading should students do? When the teachers give reading class to students, they should notice a balance----a balance to be struck between real English on the one hand and the students capabilities and interests on the other. There is some authentic written material which beginner students can understand to some degree: menus, timetables, signs and basic instructions, for example, and, where appropriate, teachers can use these. But for longer prose, teachers can offer their students texts, which, while being like English, are nevertheless written or adapted especially for their level. Anyway, the materials to be read should be interesting and meaningful. Teachers should become better acquainted with books written specially for teenagers and dealing with their problems.III. What are the principles behind the teaching of reading? i) Permit Students To Read No one has learned to swim by practicing the skills of backstrokes, flutter kicks or treading water while staying on the edge of the swimming pool. Yet, in the teaching of reading teachers often do just that. Rather than let the students into “the water”, teachers keep them in skills books learning rules about letters, syllables or definitions of words rather than letting them into the book itself, permitting them to be immersed in the language which comes from the authors as the readers try to reconstruct the written message.ii) Encourage students to respond to the content of a reading text, not just to the language Of course, it is important to study reading texts for the way they use language, how many paragraphs they contain and how many times they use relative clauses. But the meaning, the message of the text, is much more important. Teachers should help students understand that the main reason to read is for them. They have to have their own purpose to read and reading must make sense, they have to find ways of doing something about it. They should be encouraged either to reread or to continue reading to gain meaning. But they must realize that the meaning is not in the teacher, but in the interaction between the reader and author. Students should be encouraged to ask themselves repeatedly, “Does this make sense to me?” Students should be encouraged to reject and to be intolerant of reading materials that do not make sense. iii) Encourage students to guess or predict Readers guesses or predictions are based on the cumulative information and syntactic structure they have been learning as they have been reading. Therefore, their guesses are more often than not appropriate to the materials. Students have to 。

However,we should not be prevented by these problems. Here,I have some suggestions.First,we should change the way of our job hunting. We should find job no matter how much the salary is.As long as we have our own job,we can acquire much useful knowleage by working. If we do well, then we can relize our ideal futher more. Also,we can attend some training class for the job.By this way we can find a job easily.
